Annals of Westeros: Volume 3

War has left our lands ravaged, and the people were not prepared for the cruel Winter months.  Worse still, hunger is not the only thing to fear for those who survived the War of the Thirty Two Kings.  Ravens from the Wall have brought news that the White Walker threat is indeed upon us!  The Others have overcome the Wildling clans and even the Night's Watch themselves!  There is little time to prepare for the coming invasion as they march south, and yet infighting continues among the remaining Houses.

In the North, stalwart allies since the Age of Heroes, Houses Reed and Stark have fallen.  Rising to claim Winterfell is House Forrester, who along with House Mormont would be the first to attempt withstanding the coming army of the dead.  However their greed for more land and power may spell their doom.  In stunning contrast to generations of tradition and culture, Lord Mormont has made plans to leave Bear Island and set sail for the Iron Islands.  Calling upon what ships remain in the Northern armies, he has his eyes set on the seastone chair.

House Forrester, now left to defend the North alone, have gotten word of the upjumped Lord of House Royce leading a host from the Vale.  Arrogant or bold?  The history writers will have to decide.

Meanwhile, the Eyrie has been left vacant.  The sickly child-Lord of House Arryn has finally succumbed to his illness.  There have been whispers of foul play, as the Master of Coin and Lord of Harrenhal had taken quite an interest in the boy during the chaos that plagued Westeros.  Now that House Arryn has fallen with no obvious heir, and Lord Royce has left with northern ambition, there is tension in the Vale.  Littlefinger bides his time, happy to hold his position as Lord Protector while the other Lords continue to slaughter each other.

The Targaryen threat from across the Narrow Sea has taken control of that which they lost to King Baratheon all those years ago.  Baratheon steel was no match for Targaryen dragonflame, and the damage to Kings Landing has been severe.  The Red Keep lies in ruin, and flames still persist throughout Flea Bottom.  Lady Swann wisely took what was left of her House and armies, and abandoned the Stormlands.  Ravens had reached her from a long forgotten house in the West.

Casterly Rock.  Prized capitol of the Westerlands, renown for the riches in its mines.  In the Age of Heroes, Lann the Clever tricked the original residents out of their castle and took it for himself.  They remembered.  House Casterly has resumed control of the Rock, removing the vile Lannisters and their vassals, the Cleganes.  Lord Casterly will not have long to enjoy his retaken home, however, as the armies of Swann are fast descending upon him.

In the South, the mysterious Sand Snakes have seized control of Dorne, and almost as quickly retreated to Sunspear before making another move.  Are they conserving their strength, or will they be happy to simply maintain control of the capitol?  It is difficult to say what the Dornish bastards will do, they have yet to send a single raven since murdering their Lord uncle.

Lord Santagar has strategically abandoned Dorne with his armies, heading north to the Reach.  With Winter upon us, food has become more valuable than gold and Lord Tyrell has enjoyed a relatively easy season amassing stores of it to withstand the Winter years.  The Maesters have locked the doors of the Citadel in anticipation of the coming battle for Highgarden.

War rages on in Westeros, and the Long Night approaches.
